Herbs and Plants for Sale 2018

Well, here it is! The Growing North Herb and Plant List for 2018. Although my overall focus for Growing North is education and inspiration, I do sell a few organic, from-seed herbs along with other organic grown veggies and plants here in Thunder Bay to keep the urban greenhouse going all year πŸ™‚ If you are looking for garden edibles that have never seen chemicals (or borage for your bees), you’ve come to the right place.

I want to say THANK YOU to the awesome folks who have supported me every year, and who have always had suggestions for what they’d like to see for sale. I’ve made great use of that info! The herbs I’ve grown and the pricing is all directly from that input, so I hope you all find some of what you were looking for!

Due to some unexpected germination issues, a few herbs needed to be re-started, and are not yet available, but will be as soon as they are all grown up! I’ll update the list throughout the spring, so you may want to bookmark this page so you can come back and see if anything has changed (or follow me on FB, Instagram or Twitter for updates).

Because I do still work full-time throughout the week, I’m happy to arrange times in the evening or weekends for folks to stop in for herbs and pickups at 158 Windemere Avenue North (Thunder Bay, Ontario)

White (Sacred) Sage – $6 ea

A difficult herb to grow from seed, I’ve struggled through and have some lovely young plants available for folks this year πŸ™‚

  • White Alpine Strawberry plants – $6/pk (4 plants) SOLD OUT
  • Red Alpine Strawberry plants – $6/pk (4 plants) SOLD OUT
  • Red Alpine Strawberry planters (in decorative clay pots) – $10 ea (SOLD OUT)
  • Pine Berries (a unique white Everbearing strawberry) – $10 $8 each
  • Domestic Raspberry $10 each
  • St. Croix Grape Vines – $20 each (NOT YET AVAILABLE)

The St. Croix grapes are a hardy northern grape, and the mother vine for these young ones has been living outside the Thunder Bay city limits happily, and unprotected, for about 10 years. Unlike most other northern grapes that are bitter and for wines only, they have a fruit that is sweet enough for tasty jams, syrups and preserves. The skins are a gorgeous dark blue colour.

The young vines offered here are in their first year of rooting, so it may be a couple years before they fruit. That said, this gives you plenty of time to train them πŸ™‚

UNAVAILABLE FOR 2018 – Sadly, due to the early frosts August 2017, I will not have edible Sweet Potato slips available for 2018 – BUT!!! I do plan to have them available once again in 2019 once my stock has increased, and I’ll be adding a few more short season varieties for you to try πŸ™‚

Edible Sweet Potato Vines!!! – $1.50 each slip

I DO have some short-season sweet potatoes that I will sell vine cuttings from. Starting in late May early June I’ll get the cuttings ready and start them rooting. Hopefully I have the variety you are wanting when you contact me. Once cut, they do need to be picked up within a week, so you can get them into their growing containers for the season, and avoid their roots growing too long and winding (curled up roots will choke each other and not develop into good potatoes). To help you grow these up in the North, here’s a post with the info to get started Growing Sweet Potatoes in the North!

  • Georgia Jet
  • Tainung 65
  • Superior
  • Ginseng Red
  • Carver

Herb Collections

  • I can’t resist putting little herb displays together. We can talk and create something for you πŸ™‚

Potting Options

Since I know it can be daunting re-potting plants for some folks, I went out and bought a few potting options πŸ™‚ I’m happy to re-pot your new friends early for you so they can get settled and grow a bit more before you come to bring them home. Prices for the pots vary, as well as the numbers I have, so feel free to send me a note and I’ll be happy to see what we can do. Here are some of the pots I have available (but be sure to ask, I may have others!)

Contact me!

Contact me here if you’d like come get something from the list, or have a question about what else I might have available πŸ™‚ (P.S. Don’t forget to check spam for my reply, since my email is a new sender to your account)
